Marketplace terms

These terms set the ground rules for customers and tradespeople using Someone Now. Please read them before posting a job or applying for trade access.

Important: Someone Now introduces people; it does not perform or guarantee trade work. Verification is a limited check, insurance is optional, and the customer and chosen tradesperson make the contract for the job.

1. The platform and our role

Someone Now is an online introduction and lead-access platform. We help customers describe work and help eligible tradespeople find opportunities. Unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing, Someone Now does not quote for, carry out, employ anyone to perform, supervise, inspect or guarantee the work. The customer and the tradesperson they choose make their own separate contract.

2. Eligibility and accounts

Users must be at least 18 and provide accurate, current information. Tradespeople act for business purposes. A new business or sole trader may apply. We may request evidence, refuse approval, limit categories, suspend access or remove an account where information cannot be verified or conduct creates risk.

3. Verification is limited

A verified status means only that we reviewed the information and documents requested at the time of review. It is not an endorsement or a guarantee of identity beyond those checks, competence, solvency, licensing, workmanship, availability, honesty or future conduct. Checks can become out of date. Users must report material changes, and we may repeat checks or withdraw status.

4. Insurance and regulated work

Public liability insurance is optional on Someone Now and its presence or absence is displayed separately when profiles are introduced. The customer decides what cover a job requires and must verify the policy directly where important. Tradespeople remain responsible for any insurance the law requires, including employers’ liability insurance when applicable. Gas, electrical and other regulated or specialist work may only be claimed and performed by people with the legally required current competence, registration or authorisation.

5. Customer responsibilities

Customers must describe jobs honestly, keep contact details accurate, assess each tradesperson, check identity and qualifications where relevant, obtain and verify references or insurance where desired, agree scope, price, materials, timing, cancellation and payment directly, and use a written contract for substantial work. Customers must not post unlawful, discriminatory, misleading or unsafe requests.

6. Tradesperson responsibilities

Tradespeople must claim only work they are competent and legally permitted to perform, disclose limitations, keep information current, quote honestly, comply with consumer, tax, licensing, health and safety and data-protection law, and use customer information only to respond to the claimed job. Tradespeople are independent businesses, not our employees, workers, agents or subcontractors, and cannot bind or speak for Someone Now.

7. Quotes, contracts and payments for work

Someone Now does not set the job price or handle deposits or payment for the work. Before work starts, the customer and tradesperson should record the scope, total price or charging basis, materials, timetable, cancellation rights and any guarantee in writing. They alone are responsible for invoices, deposits, payment, refunds, workmanship, damage and completing or ending that agreement.

8. Lead credits

A lead credit unlocks the contact details supplied for one job. It buys access to that information at that time; it does not guarantee that the details remain current or that the customer will reply, request a quote, arrange a visit or award paid work. A lead may be unlocked by up to five approved tradespeople. Prices, taxes and pack sizes are shown before payment. Promotional credits have no cash value.

9. Credit problems and refunds

A trade should report a demonstrably false, duplicate or materially unusable lead promptly through the contact page and include the job reference. We may investigate and, where fair, restore a credit. A change of mind, an unanswered contact attempt, another trade winning the work or a job changing after a genuine submission does not automatically make a lead defective. Nothing here removes a refund or other remedy required by law.

10. User disputes and complaints

The customer and tradesperson are responsible for resolving their own contractual dispute. Someone Now may receive a report, preserve relevant platform records, seek information, restrict access or help the parties communicate, but does not act as an arbitrator and is not required to decide private claims. A user should contact emergency services or the relevant regulator directly where safety, crime or regulated work is involved.

11. Acceptable use

Users must not scrape, copy or resell leads; bypass credit or account limits; submit false jobs, documents or reviews; impersonate another person; harass anyone; upload malicious or unlawful material; misuse identity documents; contact customers for unrelated marketing; or use the service for fraud. We may remove content, block activity, preserve evidence and cooperate with insurers, regulators or law enforcement where lawful.

12. User content

The person submitting job text, photographs or other material confirms they have the right to provide it and that it is accurate, lawful and does not expose unnecessary personal information. They grant us a limited permission to store, process and share that material only as needed to operate, secure and administer the relevant marketplace service. We may remove material that creates legal, privacy or safety risk.

13. Data and confidentiality

Personal data is handled under the privacy notice. Customer contact details and non-public job material unlocked for a job are confidential, may be used only to pursue that job and must not be sold, shared onward or used for unrelated marketing. Verification documents are private and access is restricted.

14. Service availability

We aim to keep the platform available and accurate, but internet services can be interrupted and user-supplied information can be wrong. We do not promise uninterrupted access, a particular number of leads or tradespeople, or that every error will be corrected immediately. Planned or emergency changes may affect features while we protect users or the service.

15. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts liability where the law does not allow it, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or mandatory consumer rights. Subject to that, Someone Now is not responsible for the acts, omissions, statements, quotes, payments, property access or work of independent users, or for losses that were not a foreseeable result of our breach. We do not exclude responsibility for loss caused by our own failure to use reasonable care and skill where the law makes us responsible.

16. Business-user responsibility

A tradesperson must reimburse Someone Now for reasonable losses, liabilities and external legal costs caused by that tradesperson’s unlawful work, misuse of customer data, infringement of another person’s rights, materially false verification information or deliberate breach of these terms, except to the extent the loss was caused by Someone Now’s own negligence or breach. This clause applies only so far as it is lawful and reasonable.

17. Suspension, records and changes

We may suspend or close access to protect users, investigate risk, respond to law or enforce these terms. Users may stop using the service. Legal, security, fraud-prevention and accounting records may be retained where necessary. We may update the service and these terms; material changes will be presented for acceptance where required, and a new version will not be treated as accepted merely because it exists online.

18. Law and contact

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. A consumer keeps any mandatory right to use the courts applying to them. Business users agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory law. Questions and complaints can be submitted through the contact page.

These terms are designed to be clear and fair, not to remove rights the law protects. Contact us if anything is unclear.
